California Conservation Corps Backcountry Trails Program

California Conservation Corps Backcountry Trails Program

For over 45 years, the Backcountry Trails Program has partnered with federal and state land agencies in the Sierra Nevada and other mountain ranges in California to restore, rebuild, and provide access to wilderness trails. Each year, six trail crews leave behind the conveniences of modern life and venture into the mountains to spend five months doing some of the most exhausting, challenging, physically and emotionally demanding labor imaginable. Our members work hard to produce quality trail work with minimal direct supervision; remain sober for the duration of the program; and build a healthy, supportive community founded on respect. Members participate in exstensive trail work trainings as well as a curriculum program outside of work hours that covers such topics as: native fauna and flora identification, natural history, wilderness ethics, wilderness first aid, personal & professional development, and health & safety. There are no pre-requesities to apply, we welcome all skill levels and backgrounds.
