CHAINSAW FELLING TRAINING AT CAMP DODGE TRAILS CENTER

Workshop Trail Maintenance Agency Specific

Up to 6 participants who have had previous saw training will learn the basics of tree felling using the Scandinavian Open Face technique. Bore cutting with a chainsaw will be used to construct the hinge. Objectives, hazards, leans, escape, and cutting plans will be the primary focus. The day will begin with a brief classroom presentation, then the remainder of the day will be spent in the field evaluating and felling trees. A felling demonstration will be undertaken to clarify any questions. Bore cutting practice will also be undertaken. A certificate of completion will be given to each participant at the end of the day. Evaluations, for those needing USFS saw cards, will be provided within 2 weeks.

Training will be held Wednesday, August 23rd and Thursday, August 24th, 8:30 AM-5:00 PM each day.

Camp Dodge Trails Center is located at 1 Camp Dodge Rd., Gorham, NH 03581 (to the north of the Mt. Washington Auto Road, on the east side of NH Route 16 across from the Great Gulf trailhead). Lodging is available at Camp Dodge in co-ed shared bunkhouses. The bathhouse is a short walk from the bunkhouses. There are no linens or towels provided. Breakfast, trail lunches, and dinner are served in the Camp Dodge kitchen.

A current First Aid and CPR certification is required as a prerequisite for this course.
