Pioneer Peak

2024 Matanuska Borough, AK

Role: Project Supervisor

This trail corridor is 25' wide and reroutes were not an option since the land on either side belonged to another land manager. We had to keep our work within this steep, narrow corridor. The only solution to remedying this wet, seepy trail was wooden structures. All materials were flown in via helicopter.
I coordinated all logistics for the helicopter operation including load breakdowns, load rigging, determining all drop zones, and leading communications for the operation.
~336’ of 12” wide running plank
12’ of handrail added to the first switchback to discourage switchback cutting
5’ long set of crib steps rising 22” out of the parking lot
7 preexisting, failed boardwalk segments removed and replaced
2 creek crossings reworked with stepping stones
6 switchback turning platforms expanded to reduce grade around corners
9 trench-style drains dug totaling ~500’
~200’ of tread reshaped, outsloping, and backslope
