Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail Relocation
2024 White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire
Role: Crew Lead 2023, Field Supervisor 2024
Relocating 1.5 miles of trail on the slopes of Mount Washington. Historic weather events, general climate change, and an increase in visitor use has rendered part of the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail extremely hazardous to traverse. Repairing would only delay the inevitable and the surrounding terrain (extremely steep sideslopes by a now-regularly flooding river) isn't conducive to this approach. In 2023, my crew and I started construction on the relocation; as of the end of 2024, the project is still on-going, though there has been tremendous progress is just two seasons-worth of work.
