Tom has attended numerous Professional Trail Builders Conferences, American Trail conferences, and Corps sponsored trainings involving contract administration, river & wetland ecology, and preserving historic resources. Tom has successfully completed certifications in both UTAP and HETAP, and as his experience and knowledge increased Tom has presented at an American Trails Conference, several Corps Ranger Training Conferences, and several Massachusetts and Connecticut state trail conferences. After retirement from the Corps in 2015, Tom continued to serve on several trail nonprofits and the Sturbridge Trail Committee. For the Town of Sturbridge Tom has successfully applied for and administered over $750,000.00 in trail grants including projects from Engineering Design, permitting and construction of the Grand Trunk Trail to single track flow trails. In 2011 Tom was the Town lead in funding and establishing a town wide Recreation Trails Master Plan, with a 2021 update to guide the Town in its trail building initiatives.
