For over three decades Kevin has planned, built, maintained, and mostly certainly used trails. The learning path has been more of a marathon than a sprint that began with wanting nothing more than to have storm damaged trees removed from the local trails. The experience needed to succeed in trail related design, construction, and maintenance work is very diverse. Kevin’s experience was gained starting as individual volunteer with a federal land management agency, progressed to being part of the leadership team of a successful not for profit trail advocacy group that has built 75 miles of new trails, and ended with the forming K4 Trails in 2021. In parallel to this path Kevin work for 28 years in county government as Director of Facilities and Information Technology and was lead on multimillion dollar technical and infrastructure projects. Additionally, Kevin has served 6 years as chairman of a federal land advisory board and as an elected Councilman for the City of Sturgis SD. These experiences combine to facilitate sound leadership in trail processes from planning through construction to maintenance, including training staff and volunteers while being conscious of budgets and facilitating stakeholders.
Hand and mechanized construction of 30 miles of sustainable natural and aggregate surface multiple use single track trails with MTB optimization. Trail projects have included all aspects of the process and include master plan creation, stakeholder meetings, budgeting, logistics, construction, and annual maintenance on public lands with both federal and local governmental management, as well as privately held parks and parcels. Trail related structures like fence crossing, retaining wall, and bridges have been designed, mobilized, and installed as part of complete trail projects.
