Tony has a Masters of Education in Outdoor Adventure Recreation and is a Board Member of the Professional TrailBuilders Association (PTBA). He is based in Salida, CO where he is the Principal with Tony Boone Trails, and the Business Development Specialist with Timberline TrailCraft. Tony is a pioneer in the evolution and art of planning and creating sustainable, machine-built trails for mountain bikers, hikers, runners and equestrians. His accomplishments include: the first official mountain bike patrol in Colorado in 1989, training eight International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) Trail Care Crews (1997-2011), inspiring and conducting mechanized training for the IMBA Trail Solutions (2001), and contributing to three IMBA books: Trail Solutions: IMBA’s Guide to Building Sweet Singletrack, Managing Mountain Bikes: IMBA’s Guide to Providing Great Riding and Bike Parks: IMBA’s Guide to New School Trails. Tony has been involved with trail maintenance for past 45+ years, starting young with helping build & maintain trails on his family's 5th generation cattle ranch. As a young adult he worked as a volunteer with numerous trail advocacy groups. In the 90's he led maintenance crews at Boulder County Parks & Open Space and started the Boulder Regional Conservation Crewleaders program, a multi-agency effort to train volunteer crew leaders.

Since 1994, Tony has partnered with friends and family to create four successful trail building companies, all members (or past members) of PTBA including Arrowhead Trails (!994-2010), Anasazi Trails (2007-2012), Tony Boone Trails (2010-Present) and Timberline Trailcraft (2019-Present). Tony started working with Boulder County Parks & Open Space in 1987 as a Park Ranger, and soon after a Natural Resource Specialist. He was responsible for developing the park ranger program, sheriffs reserve training, interpretative programming, oral history project with Carnegie Library, biological weed control, agricultural leases, and assisting with natural resource management. Since then, he has built 100's of trail systems for public agencies around the world.
