Trail Builder
UGATA is seeking two dynamic Trail Builders to join our team! Since 2021, we have built nearly 40 miles of trails across the Upstate, with a goal of adding 120 miles by 2031. Our projects range from short nature trails in city parks, to multi-mile mountain biking trail networks, to work on iconic mountain trails like the Foothills Trail. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about trails, have a positive outlook and attitude, and are creative problem solvers to help us bring more trails to life.Full-Time Nonprofit

All projects located within daily commute of our office in Greenville, SC
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:- Perform manual labor on trail projects (corridoring, tread work, carpentry, rock work, etc.).
- Operate trail construction tools and machinery (company vehicles, chainsaws, mini excavator, hand tools, carpentry tools, etc.).
- Oversee community volunteers assisting with trail construction projects.
- Assist with the planning, design and execution of trail projects.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
General Work Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, some Saturdays. Approximately 40 hours/week.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Comfort doing physically demanding work in the outdoors in inclement weather.
- Existing knowledge and/or an ability to quickly learn best practices for hiking and mountain biking trail construction and maintenance.
- Existing knowledge and/or certifications (or an ability to quickly learn) for common trail construction tools and machinery (chainsaws, mini excavators, hand tools, carpentry tools, etc.).
- A passion for expanding trails in Upstate South Carolina.
- A valid drivers license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
- Extensive trail building and maintenance experience and expertise.
- Successful completion of a national service program (AmeriCorps, military service, etc.).
- Current or former US Forest Service B-Sawyer certification.
- Experience and skills operating a mini excavator.
- Experience working with community volunteers.
Salary & Benefits: This is a salaried position, with a competitive salary dependent on skills and experience. UGATA offers health/dental/vision insurance and a monthly retirement plan contribution.
