As a Trail Solutions Construction Project Manager, you’ll be responsible for planning, managing, and delivering trail construction projects on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety. This role is ideal for a professional with strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of the MTB trail construction process, and a passion for mountain biking and outdoor recreation.
You won’t just be managing projects—you’ll be leading efforts that shape the landscape of recreation. From carving singletrack in alpine forests to shaping jump lines in Appalachian clay, building urban bike parks to blazing trails in Nevada's backcountry—our work spans the full spectrum of terrain and creativity. As part of our construction team, you’ll travel across the country, immersing yourself in ecosystems and communities that most people only dream of experiencing. This position involves extensive travel (approximately 40% to 60%) across diverse landscapes. During travel, all lodging, meals and incidentals (M&IE), mileage, and airfare are covered. You'll collaborate closely with Trail Solutions staff, subcontractors, and clients to bring exceptional trail projects to life.

This is a remote-based position with regular and extended travel across the United States required.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead trail construction projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results.
• Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables in alignment with Trail Solutions' standards.
• Oversee on-site and remote teams, subcontractors, and third-party partners to ensure seamless collaboration and execution.
• Ensure strict compliance with environmental, safety, and quality regulations and standards.
• Coordinate procurement, inventory, and logistics of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Prepare and deliver regular internal and client-facing project reports, identifying milestones, challenges, and solutions.
• Identify potential project risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies to maintain progress and integrity.
• Uphold construction quality and sustainability best practices in all phases of project delivery.
• Enforce internal safety protocols and risk management policies in accordance with IMBA Trail Solutions procedures.
Qualifications and Core Competencies
Required Skills & Experience
• Proven experience project managing trail construction from planning to completion.
• Deep understanding of trail construction processes, means, and methods.
• Strong computer skills across various software platforms.
• Strong leadership, communication, and personnel management abilities.
• Skilled in conflict resolution and crisis management.
• Previous trail building business ownership or equivalent preferred.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively - comprising up 40 % to 60% of work time.
• Hands-on mountain biking experience is essential, with intermediate to advanced riding skills required.

• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities with minimal supervision.

Client & Partner Relations
• Maintain a professional, positive, and proactive representation of IMBA in all client and partner interactions.
• Contribute to client satisfaction, retention, and new client acquisition through effective communication and project delivery.
Experience & Certifications
• Proven experience managing trail construction projects, including planning and logistics, client relations, sales, cost estimating, team managing, and on-site project execution and trail review.
• Proficient in heavy equipment operation—especially excavators, bulldozers, and track loaders—in varied and technical terrain.
• Ability to train, mentor, and motivate staff.
• Extensive experience in trail construction and maintenance, with a strong grasp of sustainable design and building practices.
• Background in the mountain biking and cycling industry is required; passion for trail access and outdoor recreation is essential.
• Strong technical mountain biking skills preferred, including the ability to ride advanced features, technical terrain, and jump trails.
• Able to clearly interpret and implement verbal and written directives from clients, IMBA leadership, and project partners.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; effective in leading teams and collaborating across roles.
• Maintains a professional, service-oriented demeanor in all client and public interactions.
• Mechanically skilled with hands-on experience in preventive maintenance and repair of tools and small engines.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
• This position requires a high level of physical fitness, stamina, and comfort with outdoor work in remote and rugged environments.
• Frequent exposure to all weather conditions: heat, humidity, cold, wind, rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.
• Regularly work outdoors for extended periods (10+ hour days) with limited access to conventional facilities.
• Extensive travel by vehicle and air is required; overnight and multi-week trips are frequent.
• Daily physical activity includes walking, hiking (1–5 miles/day frequently; up to 12 miles occasionally), crouching, lifting, and operating equipment.
• Regular lifting of up to 25 lbs.; occasional lifting of 50–100 lbs.
• Required to operate near heavy machinery and moving mechanical parts.
• Occasional mountain bike trail rides of 20+ miles per day.
• Use of specialized equipment: chainsaws, blowers, OHVs, dirt bikes, GPS units, clinometers, hand/power tools, and mountain bikes.
• Requires driving full size diesel trucks and gooseneck 30 Ft trailers, including backing up.
• Noise levels on job sites can be high and may require hearing protection.
