Workshop

Outdoor Recreation has both the opportunity and a responsibility to be more inclusive of all communities and to question dominant and privileged cultural perspectives. During this 4 part cohort series workshop, attendees will be introduced to the concept of unconscious bias,including in the development of projects and programs. Through a series of interactive virtual sessions, participants will examine privilege and bias as it pertains to planning and programming. Participants will reflect on individual and organizational practices and develop strategies for creating engaging and meaningful programming for diverse audiences.

$350 for SORP members, $450 for non-members.

  • 9 am-12 pm PT
  • 10 am – 1pm MT
  • 11 am -2 pm CT
  • 12 pm - 3 pm ET


SESSION OBJECTIVES:

  • Participants build awareness around individual unconscious biases, and how it can affect their work.
  • Participants build awareness of the impacts of bias in institutions, and the effects that systematic oppression has on individuals and communities.
  • Participants will explore the ways that bias and oppression may show up in their work, and develop strategies for overcoming these.
  • Participants will work in cohorts to workshop a program idea to support them in implementing these concepts of equity and inclusion in their work.
